A new service to help businesses across England get the training they need to succeed - and it's Government funded!

Our world is changing; we all need more skills than ever before. Research shows that 1.3 million people go to work every day without the skills they require to do their job proficiently. What is Train to Gain?

Train to Gain is a work-based vocational training programme for anyone in employment aged 19 and over. You must be in employment, as your training will take place at your employer's site or office.

Train to Gain allows you to work towards achieving a Level 2 National Vocational Qualification.

How long does the programme last?

This can be variable and can depend upon the employee's commitment, occupational area and the level of support in the workplace.

It is really only on completion of the Training Needs Analysis that a more definite length of programme can be agreed.

What are the benefits?

  • The qualifications gained are equivalent to GCSEs and can be used to access further education
  • You are working as well as learning while you are taking home a wage
  • Your qualification is tailored to what you do every day so it is relevant and can help you along your chosen career path
  • It is in your in employer's interest to be supportive, they want you to do well

What is an assessor - what do they do?

When you start your programme you are assigned an assessor. Your assessor is your main point of contact and, for many, becomes a mentor and source of encouragement. Your assessor will complete a Training Needs Analysis; this will indicate the most appropriate NVQ to suit both you and your employer.

Your assessor makes regular visits to you at your work place (usually every 3 to 4 weeks) to ensure you are making good progress towards your agreed achievement date.

Is there a Train To Gain programme for every job?

Yes, although MPH Customer Centred Training specialises in Business and Administration, Customer Service, Information Technology (ITQ) and Team Leading.

Is there lots of paperwork?

With most things in life, the more you put in the more you get out. There is paperwork but it is mainly for you to record the things you are doing at work, that then becomes part of your qualification portfolio - proof that you are getting the right sort of experience.

What help will I get?

Your assessor will ensure you are settled and give you regular encouragement. However, they are not there to do everything for you.

The assessor on your account is important in making your programme run smoothly and also provide a comprehensive range of services throughout the programme from start to finish, which could include:

  • Initial advice and guidance
  • Assessing your skills
  • Your registration and induction onto the programme
  • Guidance on your portfolio and helping you with your training plan
  • Regular assessment visits every few weeks at your workplace
  • Approval of your portfolio and gaining your certificate
  • An interview on completion of the course (if further guidance is required)

This is only a brief overview to help you decide whether you would like to take the process further.
